Our Mission: Design for Ease of Use
BlueSky Designs applies ergonomics and universal design to develop products that address the needs of people with and without disabilities -- at work, at play, and at home.
The resulting products make activities easier for and more accessible to everyone.

Our Model: An Idea Development Studio
We are a small business with a focus on developing products that can help people "do what they want to do".
Our roots are in providing custom designs to individuals with disabilities. This can be costly and only affects one person at a time. In 2002, Blue Sky Designs began to focus on product development. Developing commercially-available products, we benefit many more people than we could reach through custom designs. The result is more affordable, available, and functional technology for everyone.
Until 2007, we approached manufacturing partners and
licensed our inventions to them. Our business model has been that of an
idea development studio, focused on universal design.
The Next Step: Growing a Sustainable Business
In order to build a sustainable business, we will take some of our designs to market ourselves. Partnering with contract manufacturers and established distributors, we will bring our innovations to reality and deliver them to end users.
Our Expertise: Accessible Products for Work and Play
Our expertise is in three primary areas:
- Universal Design - Designing products and environments so they are easier to use by a broader segment of the population.
- Ergonomic Design - Designing equipment to fit the person and the task, reducing physical demands.
- Assistive Technology - Technology which assists
people with disabilities in doing something.
Our activities include: Research, Concept Development, Product Development and Design, Training
- Research Activities:
We conduct needs assessments, focus groups, market research, existing
technology research and assessment, and usability testing of products
and prototypes.
- Concept Development:
Using information gathered though research, concepts and product
features are developed and presented via drawings, written descriptions,
or prototypes.
- Product Development and Design: In order to obtain feedback on product concepts, sketches,
3D CAD drawings, and functional prototypes are developed. Detailed
drawings or CAD files may be used in order to have parts or temporary
tooling fabricated. Production alternatives may be explored, and quotes
obtained for tooling and piece part costs.
- Training: Develop and
provide workshops and training materials relating to Universal Design,
Assistive Technology, Recreation and Job Accommodation Technology.
