  • A SBIR Phase I Award from the Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) was awarded to continue development of an accessible watercraft transfer mechanism. The Phase I grant period runs from October 2007-March 2008.
  • Powered Device Mounting and Positioning Technology for People with Disabilities. BlueSky Designs is conducting research into the development of switch and voice-activated powered mounting and positioning technology. The Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) is funding the research through a SBIR grant. The Phase I grant runs from October 2005 through March 2006. Link
  • Accessible Mounting and Positioning Technology for Increased Independence (2005-2007). The National Institutes of Health awarded BlueSky Designs a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research Grant, from the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD), within the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research. The mounting technology under development will allow individuals with limitations in strength and dexterity to independently move and reposition devices mounted to their wheelchairs or workstations.
  • USDA Small Business Innovation Research Award 2005 (May-December), All Aboard: Development of Portable Watercraft Transfer Technology to Increase Access to Boating for People with Disabilities. BlueSky Designs was awarded a Phase 1 award in 2005 from the US Department of Agriculture. Portable, accessible and affordable watercraft transfer technology will be developed to allow individuals with mobility impairments to more safely and easily participate in boating and fishing. The universal design may be used by any boater to transfer children or heavy objects such as gas tanks, motors or coolers onto boats. It will improve access to boating for aging boaters, boaters with lifting restrictions, and people with disabilities. The portability will provide boaters with disabilities, their families and programs increased choices and flexibility as to where they boat.
  • Department of Education Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Award, Independently Operable Device Mounting and Positioning Technology for Persons with Disabilities.
    BlueSky Designs was awarded a Phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research Grant from OSERS/NIDRR (Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services/National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research). The mounting technology under development would allow individuals with limitations in strength and dexterity to independently move and reposition devices mounted to their wheelchairs or workstations.

  • Minnesota Inventor's Network, Best New Products of 2003 (August 2003) The Garden Rocker took a first place in the Minnesota Inventor's Network's competition, winning the Lawn and Garden Division. Winning products were on display at the Inventor's Network booth at the Minnesota State Fair.
  • Oasis Balance Grant for Women Entrepreneurs (January-July, 2003) BlueSky Designs, Inc. was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Oasis Balance Bar company for new product development, patent costs, and staff training in SolidWorks 3D modeling.
  • USDA Small Business Innovation Research Award: In-tent-ionally Accessible Tent and Vestibule for Campers with and without Disabilities.
    BlueSky Designs was awarded a Phase 1 (2001-02) and Phase 2 (2002-04) from the US Department of Agriculture. The technology under development includes camping tents and vestibules which are easily accessed and used by people with disabilities.

  • Minnesota Project Innovation’s Dillon Persistence Award (April 2002) BlueSky Designs won the Dillon Persistence Award, given to a select first time SBIR winner in Minnesota which has shown the persistence and patience required in applying for and winning their first Small Business Innovation Research grant.

  • JobOpps (1999-00)
    The JobOpps project consisted of working with job developers in the community to determine the characteristics of individuals they find hardest to place and developing accommodations for them for jobs that are easy to find.

  • On the Trails (1997-98)
    The On the Trails project included the compilation and distribution of a resource directory of assistive technology for outdoor recreation and a listing of resources in Northeastern Minnesota. It also included conducting universal trail assessments of 5 trails, including two in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

    Coordinated and provided assistive technology training pertaining to transition-aged students for professionals in Northeastern Minnesota.

    Tamarack Habilitation Technologies
