The Specs SwitchTM (1994), Ablenet Designed by Di when she worked at AbleNet “The place-anywhere, attach-to-or-around-anything, versatile Specs switch!”The Specs Switch was designed and engineered by Dianne in 1994, while she worked at AbleNet. She was given the assignment to design a smaller version of their existing switch line. Di’s first step was to call Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Engineers to find out more about what they wanted. Through many conversations, she found they wanted a smaller, more durable switch than was presently available. |
The Specs Switch with three different bases, can be attached in a variety of ways.

But that’s not all- several people mentioned wanting a wearable switch, or one which could be placed in the palm of someone’s hand, or attached to a wheelchair armrest or headrest. Some liked the idea of attaching with a flange, similar to the existing switches, but others wanted it smaller.
The solution Di came up with was a small switch with three different base plates, so it could be attached in a variety of ways. The strap plate and the stretchy Velcro strap provided allow people to strap it onto a wheelchair or bedrail, or into someone’s palm. The Specs switch is the most versatile and durable small switch available. The Specs Switch is manufactured by Ablenet. |
